PAWNS OF GOD

We are,

But the pawns of God,

And he being the chess master,

Moves us from one block to another,

We are,

But the pawns of God,

He being the king,

Decides our fate,

And,

Puts us in a situation or another,

When He wishes,

He makes us soar like a hawk,

And,

Sometimes,

Make us crawl through life,

All a pawn can do,

Follow the king’s command,

For we are the pawns of God,

Whatever we wish,

Whatever we say,

Only His will becomes the play,

From life’s first to final act,

We can just only react,

To all that what happens to us,

Though we may wish to take a course,

He is the one, who brings his force,

To ease our pain or make an increase,

His will is supreme,

Though we may say that it is extreme,

There’s a purpose of every move,

He puts people and He removes,

To test the endurance of the pawn,

To test us in happiness he brings dawn,

And to try us in dark,

He brings the dusk,

The path is there,

Straight and clear,

You choose to move,

Or fly away like a dove,

And in the end,

The pawn wins or falls

your will writes your story,

A tale of glory,

Or a tragedy, of fall.

Dry wells: an autobiographical account of a petroleum engineer

I was standing in the que for the varsity medical examination unaware of the future (mis) adventures and dreaming about the life ahead when suddenly my turn came and I passed the medical examination. The next day I had to select an engineering discipline from a cluster of 17 unique departments at the NED University. Every student aspires to get an admission in a prestigious institution, but in his obsession to get admitted to a university he/she fails to assess the value of the discipline of his choice. I selected Petroleum Engineering as my father wished me to opt for it. It is different from other disciplines and usually unrelated to them. Here you measure reservoir permeability and porosity instead of shear force and torque (in the mechanical engineering). It was a modest batch of 50 students (modest as compared to the batches in the other departments). We were all very excited through the first year and then dark clouds began to gather over us as the industry face...

MBA

Getting a respectable job these days has become the most arduous task. One has to undergo several difficult phases in order to get a proper job. The prospect of engineering more specifically petroleum engineering are fading at an alarming rate. The safest thing an engineer can do is to opt for an MBA degree. In order to get an MBA degree, the first step is to secure an admission at a university. In Karachi, you have a number of choices on your platter, but there the factors of cost and recognition narrow down the options. If you reside in Karachi, an MBA from the IBA is an ideal one as far as affordability and recognition is concerned. PREPARING FOR THE TEST  The road to the IBA is not a walk in the park and a candidate has to prepare properly for it. The recommended books for preparation are; SAT I for BBA and GMAT for the MBA program. Once you clear the test, which most of the candidates easily do, you have to appear for an interview, which is the deciding factor for th...

NED Diaries

In the beginning (1 st year) I was like a machine gun that continuously fired words that were beyond the comprehension of people. I had few friends as most people avoided me. In the second year I gained some control over my words, though not completely and I started to make some friends. In the third year I almost became a celebrity, as most of the class discovered my talent and I gathered yet another bunch of friends. The third year was the best year in the university life, we had lots of fun and most importantly I discovered Fatima, though I did not have enough courage to talk to her. Taha had to bear two internships with me during that year. The final year was a gloomy year, though we had a little bit of fun, it was a total reign of boredom. The only memorable event in the final year was the visit to Mari Gas Company, the movies that I watched with Belal and the drafting of the constitution of the SPE. Drawing class Engineering drawing was a boring subject,...
